I've never seen anyone partake in about 18 memorials I went to up to last year's one, nor heard of anyone in my city doing it. It seems the Americans are getting into it though!! Good on them! This reliu started in America and maybe it will start to end there.

A farce elder here
by His Excellency injust to share a little about me:.
i was recently appointed an elder, about 6 months ago now, and that is exactly two years after my awakenning, but funny that the appointment came also about 2 years after i had completely lost all faith in god and had been leading a full time anti-jw life .
makes you wonder the role of the holy spirit in the entire nomination or appointment process.. .

I'm with Cofty and Kate and others. Why fake it? Why be part of an organizational structure that harms people? That is like joining the Gestapo as a closet Jew in my books. Not as bad as that of course, but still hypocritical.

What is the difference between an active JW and a successful FORMER JW?

active jw's are pushing the end times boulder up the mountain day after day with an imaginary goal of paradise for their efforts.
the prophetic dates roll over them and crush them again and again.

I disagree with point 1. I'm passionate and creative but am NOT an early riser. Never have been and never will be. My best creative hours are between 22:00 and midnight.

I bet this Andre guy views himself as some sort of celebrity because he was a jw movie star. Jesus would so go all Matthew chapter 23 on him if they ever met!!!
What a bunch of cheapskates!! They should do like the Mormons and put their website on billboards rather than soil the holiest jw occasion with their info mercial. I know Americans are used to a lot of advertising and that, but wtf would people in Africa and Asia think?

Sex really that bad?

why/how are sexual desires really that much of a sin??.
sexual energy is one of the highest forms of energies known, why would god put this strong desire in us only to have us repress it through his"word the bible"??.

Sex is something that must be enjoyed responsibly because there are dire consequences for being reckless. Some view it as sin yet some treat it as a sport and yet others abuse it like a druggo abuses drugs. It's a powerful urge and not inherently bad. It does need to be controlled though, just as the urge to eat chocolate mudcake every day and wash it down with chardonnay must be controlled or you get fat! Like every good thing, sex has a place and must be respected. Religions regulate it because sex takes energy and emotion away from them. If you're happy and content inside, why would you get excited about mass or a district convention or a tiring trip to mecca?

Is Modern Marriage Unscriptual?

Marriage was so often a way to align two families and produce heirs to royal lineages and that. In poor classes it didn't matter so much so marriage could be for love. These days marriage is about publicly pledging your love and having civil rights. People here tend to live together and maybe even have kids, and then get married later on. Those relationships have the same legal recognition unless you're gay, which is why gay Australians want legal marriage options.

I skipped the crazy sex n drugs stage and will grumble about what idiots they are but mostly I'm in activism in that I will tell people I meet what jws are really like. I did rebel a little by celebrating birthdays and Christmas and drinking a lot!!
Interestingly, for me an many others, leaving the cult had the same stages as bereavement or breakup:
Denial of ttatt
Bargaining (if only, maybe I can stay for social life)
Anger (at their crappy teachings n the wrong they've done you )
Grief (missing the good things about the jw life, friends who now shun you)
Depression (guilt over being silly enough to join, the realisation of how much of your life you can't get back, feeling futile over loved ones still trapped)
Acceptance of the past
Moving on from it and getting on with life: rebuilding.
There's also the aspect of having to renegotiate your beliefs, beliefs you've had no say in formulating that you now have to sit down and work out for yourself, such as, what do I think about homosexuality? What do I think about Harry potter?
